Labor Day weekend was like an extended staycation for me and I have to say, it felt good.
Chad and I just got back from an impromptu dinner (We brought our own bottle of NA wine; it feels delicious to be clear-minded and lightweight as I write this). Before that, I did exactly nothing in terms of productivity.
I talked to my parents for more than two hours, which was nice. They're going through their own transition into empty-nesthood and it's refreshing to talk to them as friends, as equals, and hear about the challenges they face and the excitement they feel for their next chapter.
I don't know how everybody got so old–– how my parents did, how my siblings did, how I did–– but here we are. I feel really present, here in this life, not holding on to the past, but really focused on my day-to-day (and ok, a little bit of my future, I must confess).
One exciting development from my phone call with the 'rents: They are coming to my show at the Viper Room!! I am so excited for this show, I can hardly believe it. We got the confirmation today, and before that, I was nervous it would get cancelled because I just want it that fucking bad.
I'm going to go CRAZY with promo this week. Just absolutely crazy. My plan is to visit surrounding restaurants and hotels in West Hollywood with the guys, and try to broker a deal with them to help us sell tickets, either for a percentage, or maybe just out of the goodness of their hearts, we'll see.
I'm also going to put flyers up all around town and at every Guitar Center bulletin board within a 10-mile radius. I'm thinking I'll need to print 300 flyers. Our goal is to get 100 people to the show, which would be INSANE.
Talking to my friend's husband last night really illuminated some things for me in terms of how to be as entertaining as possible. That said, there are some minor changes we need to make with the set, so I'll talk to the band about it at rehearsal tomorrow. It's so hard to think about promo and PR whilst putting together an epic show but that's the way a bootstraps operation goes.
Also tomorrow, I have a production meeting for the play I'm in as we are working on our first round of fundraising. It's exciting to be involved with the process and I definitely don't want to drop the ball for my big acting debut. After the Viper Room, I'll have more time to focus on that, but right now, it's a balancing act. Don't even get me started on life errands and home-improvement projects.
Plus, I gotta get back in the gym leading up to the next show because I want to look fit on stage and... I'd rather not split my pants again. I should probably also attend some ballet classes, but who knows if there will be time. Certainly, I need to put together some notion of choreography for our set and it it has to be tight.
T- less than two weeks. I enjoyed the time off while it lasted. Now it's back to full-speed. Wish me luck!
Ttyt,
Hannah
